The Town of Sussex is located in south central New Brunswick, Canada, strategically between the province’s three largest cities; Saint John (48 Mins) , Moncton (55 Mins) , and Fredericton (1h23 mins).

Our Town has a great deal to offer individuals and families who like small town charm with all the amenities and services of a larger centre.

 The Town of Sussex, itself, has a population of 4,241 (Census 2006).The town developed as a service centre to surrounding communities. Historically a farming community, Sussex has capitalized on its excellent geography to become a leading transportation, manufacturing, distribution and service centre in Atlantic Canada.

HEALTH SERVICES:
The Horizon Health Network administers the overall health services for the Saint John Region of the NB Department Of Health.
The Sussex Health Centre, a modern 25 bed facility,is an integral part of this network. This facility is committed to being patient focused, proactive, responsive and collaborative in the delivery of health services to the people of our community.

The strengths of this facility include the following:
Being part of the Emergency Medical Services network for the Saint John Health Region. The Sussex Health Centre provides emergency care and ambulance service 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, carried out by highly trained and skilled personnel. The on-site service is supported by access to medical specialists at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Inpatient and outpatient services include cardiac intensive care, surgery, family medicine, pediatrics and palliative care. A team approach to care is provided by 11 family physicians, 1 surgeon, 1 radiologist, nursing, diagnostic therapeutic rehabilitation staff and support personnel. Numerous visiting specialists conduct ambulatory clinics for plastic surgery, cardiology, ENT, gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics, urology, orthopedic and neurology services.

For the convenience of the patients the Sussex Health Centre offers walk-in service as well as service by appointment for ECG, X-ray and laboratory medicine daily, Monday through Friday. Mammography and ultrasound services including teaching can be booked by calling 506-432-3229.

The Extra-Mural Program, attached to the facility, provides interdisciplinary comprehensive acute, long term and rehab services to people in their homes and in other community settings.

The Sussex Health Centre also has strong linkages with other community supports such as Family Community Social Services and surrounding nursing homes.

Available Mental Health Services include addiction counseling and linkages with the Community Mental Health Services.
The Kiwanis Nursing Home, a 75 bed long term care facility, is also attached to the Health Centre.

FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Sussex Fire Department was established in 1893 and is proud to protect approximately 15,000 citizens in the Town of Sussex and in the 120 square miles of surrounding area, which we serve. We also respond to mutual aid fire services with our neighbouring fire departments.

The department consists of a full time Fire Chief and 1 full time Captain, along with the following volunteer positions; Deputy Chief, Assistant Deputy Chief, 4 Captains, 3 Lieutenants, 29 fire fighters and 2 chaplains.

FACILITIES:
The 8th Hussars Sports Centre is the “hub” of recreation in the Sussex region. Opened in 1973 and refurbished several times since this date. With an artificial ice sheet, community room, and kitchen the Sports Centre provides an inviting atmosphere for athletes and fans alike.

The centre serves as the host venue for many annual events such as the Kiwanis Homeshow, Sussex Flea Market, Atlantic International Balloon Fiesta, and the Atlantic Fish and Game Expo. The Sussex Rotary Amphitheatre features a performance stage, projection screen and integrated sound system. It is perfect for music, theatre, drama, movies, wedding receptions, and more.

EDUCATION:
Primary and Secondary education in Sussex is provided at three schools: Sussex Elementary, Sussex Middle School and Sussex Regional High School. The High School has a capacity of 800 and houses industrial, science and business labs, also a theatre, library, gymnasium and soccer pitch. Facilities are shared with community groups for a nominal rental fee.

The Sussex Christian School is a private facility located on the site of the Wesleyan Church on Chapman Drive. Opened in 1984, the school includes instruction from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Sussex has been the site of Kingswood University, a private post-secondary school, since 1965. The college enrolls students from Canada, United States and worldwide and offers BA and B.Sc. degrees in Christian Education.

Both the University of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Community College offer a wide variety of extension courses in Sussex. Registrations are accepted in Fall and Winter for academic upgrading, business, language, arts, and computer courses.
